Herbert Dennis Ireson, 89, departed this life on February 2, 2019. Herbert was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. He was born January 23, 1930 in Williamson, West Virginia to the late Herbert and Isabelle Ireson.

Herb was a veteran of the United States Navy having served aboard both the USS Quincy and USS Theodore E. Chandler during the Korean Conflict. Herbert came to live in Appalachia while working for Farmbest Dairies in 1970. He later worked for Westmoreland Coal Company.

He retired from Westmoreland in 1994. Herbert was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a proud and passionate supporter of Appalachia Bulldog football.

Herbert was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Ireson and sister, Belle Jay Richard. Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bonnie Ireson of Appalachia, VA; children, Dennis (Vickie) Ireson of Castlewood, VA, Denise Lester of Duffield, VA, Michael (Michelle) Ireson of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Morgan (Whitney) Ireson, Cody (Brittany) Lester, Logan Lester, Kimberly Ireson, Emily Ireson, Alex Ireson, Beth Ireson, Candice Grosso; great-grandchildren, Caden Ireson and Daphne Ireson; special friends, Dude and Belinda Sharrett, Lisha Sizemore, and Martina Kolouchova. The Ireson family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, VA.

A rosary service will be at the funeral home at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Big Stone Gap, VA. Procession will follow to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for the committal. Morgan Ireson, Cody Lester, Logan Lester, Alex Ireson, Adam Sharrett and Ralph Stanley will serve as pallbearers.
