Hoyt Benjamin Branham, 83, a resident of Dayton, TN passed away on Friday afternoon, April 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 24, 1935 in Meigs County in a small cabin on the banks of the Tennessee River, along Dry Branch. He was a member of the Hopewell Church of God.

After retiring, he served his community by participating in the… Read More » Birchwood Senior Neighbors and the B.A.S.I.C. program where he volunteered to deliver meals to the elderly and read to children during story time at the Birchwood Elementary School. For several years he represented the Birchwood community by submitting “Birchwood Bits” articles to the Dayton Herald sharing stories about the history of the local community and news worthy happenings in the neighborhood.
His passion was sharing stories about his childhood and the life and old time memories endured by himself and fellow friends and neighbors. While not working, Hoyt served his community by assisting fellow neighbors and friends with home repairs and automotive repairs by utilizing the skills God blessed him with. He lived a simple, humble life and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and life lessons with others.
One proud accomplishment was he studied and graduated in 2007 and received his High School GED diploma at the age of 72. He loved tending to his flower and vegetable gardens and taking care of his family pets especially his beloved dog “Penny”. Hoyt is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Leola Everett Branham, daughter Freda Ann Davis and Sister Charlene Pierce.
Hoyt leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 63 years Eveline Cooper Branham, daughter Renee Paolini and husband Greg of St. Augustine, FL, granddaughters Melissa Rittenhouse and husband Aaron of Cleveland and Katie Leann Davis and her father Jerry Davis of Decatur, great grandchildren Andy Rittenhouse and Kyle Rittenhouse of Cleveland, two brothers Garvis Branham of Birchwood and Zane Branham of Decatur along with several nieces and nephews. Services are planned for Monday, April 30, 2018 at 3:30 PM at the Birchwood Baptist Church with the Brother George Warren and the Reverend David Delmont officiating. The family receiving friends at the church on Monday afternoon from 2:00 PM – the 3:30 PM service time.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to your local Gideon Bible fund in Hoyt’s memory.
