Obituary for Huey Holland Huey Holland went to his place of eternal rest at 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, 15 September. He was 84 years old. He is survived by his wife Sylvia Norton Holland, his wife of 38 years.
He has one surviving sister Ruby Doris Holland Croley of Oxford, son in law, Robert Wallace of Wetumpka, AL step son, John G. Crosson (Donna) of Brawley, CA. He has two grandchildren: Dustin Wallace (Bri) of Wetumka, AL and Kristin Wallace of Montgomery, AL, granddaughter, Jordan Crosson of Brawley, CA and one great granddaughter, Avery. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Liller Holland; three brothers, Wallace, Forest and Clyde Holland and his sister, Dorthy Holland Jarrett.
His step daughter, Kathy C. Wallace of Wetumka, AL passed in January of this year. Huey was born to James Walter and Liller Mae Holland at the family homestead on Gadsden Highway on a crisp November day in 1933. He was baptized at the New Hope Baptist Church which is now the First Baptist Church of Saks.
He attended the First Baptist Church of Oxford. Huey attended Alexandria High School and received his diploma from Anniston High School. Huey enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952; was trained on the Lockheed P-2V Neptune maritime patrol aircraft and served at Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii.
After serving his country, Huey joined Alabama Water Pipe Corporation as a crane operator and retired with 20 years of service. His second career was working in the Anniston Depot Ordnance Division from 1978 until retiring in December 1996. Huey Holland adored his wife and family and treasured the time he spent with them.
To say he was a University of Alabama fan would be understatement; Huey loved everything about Crimson Tide football. His spirit will be missed by the Crimson Tide faithful. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018, 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home.
Dr. Stan Albright will be officiating. The entombment will follow at the Forest Lawn Gardens Mausoleum located at 730 Golden Springs Road, Anniston. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Huey Holland’s name to First Baptist Church of Oxford on 95 East Oak Street, Oxford, AL 36203. Pallbearers will be John Croley, Frankie Croley, Ira Holland, Scott Norton, Dustin Wallace, and David Nichols.
