Obituary for Imogene Flint Imogene Cooley Eden Flint, age 88, of Orlinda, mother, home-maker, pastor’s wife, and sales associate, died peacefully of natural causes Monday, December 10, 2018 at The Hearth at Hendersonville, her residence for the last two and a half years. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11am at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Springfield, with Reverend Dr. Thomas Eden officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be Friday at the church from 10am until the hour of service at 11am. Imogene was born June 28, 1930, in Greenville, Kentucky, the second of the five children of the late Veora and Thomas Sheldon Cooley. When she was five years old the family moved to Tennessee.
Imogene attended Taylor Stratton School in Madison. She graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1948. She became the wife of the late Reverend Earl Eden, to whom she was married forty years until his death in 1988.
As a pastor’s wife Imogene followed the path of ministry to the Midwest, serving as a cheerful and positive worker in churches in Indianapolis and in Middleport, Ohio, along side her husband. Like her family before her she was industrious and never idle. She enjoyed employment at Castner Knott’s and as a successful sales representative for Watkin’s Products, all the while caring for her family with a personal touch.
Imogene’s faithfulness in Christian service has been the sustaining presence of her life to all who knew her. After being widowed the first time she came to Indianapolis where both of her sons lived. She joined the Woodruff Place Baptist Church, a notable inner-city congregation, and gave of herself fully to the work.
Her ministry was enhanced by participating in a mission trip to Maasailand in Kenya in 1998. Imogene is survived by two sons, Thomas (Daisy) Eden and Terry (Rainelle) Eden. In retirement, she was married to the late Delver “Jack” Flint of Indianapolis from 1995 until his death in 2010.
She is also survived by all of her siblings, Maryanna Cooley Springer of Jackson, Tennessee, J.L. Cooley of Gallatin, Gloria Cooley Baxter of Mount Juliet and Frances Cooley Matlock of Madison.
