Irene W. Hanson February 16, 1933 – April 22, 2018 Ossipee, NH – Irene (Wilkins) Hanson, 85 of Huckins Street, Center Ossipee, NH passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Mountain View Community, Ossipee, NH where she had resided for the past four years. She was born February 16, 1933 at Dorrs Corner, Center Ossipee, NH, the daughter of Leslie and Geraldine (Abbott) Wilkins. Irene was a graduate of Spaulding High School and MacIntosh Business College where she trained for her career in bookkeeping.

She enjoyed a lengthy career as a bookkeeper, starting at Hubbard Shoe of East Rochester, NH and Brocky’s Hardware in Center Ossipee, NH. She then worked at the Carroll County Independent, where she retired in 1998 after over 30 years of service. After retirement she worked part-time at the Wentworth Economic Development Corp.

in Wolfeboro, NH. She served as a Sunday School teacher at the First Congregational Church in Center Ossipee, NH where she was a member. She was active with the Chickville Church Cemetery Association helping with fundraising and the annual church suppers.

With an interest in local history, she volunteered with the Ossipee Historical Society, Ossipee, NH and Remick Museum, Tamworth, NH. She enjoyed many baked bean suppers around her kitchen table with family and friends. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, quilting and crafting and she enjoyed giving many items away to loved ones.

She was active in several local crafting groups enjoying the friendships made there. Irene is survived by her two sons, Brian M. Hanson of Saint Johnsbury, VT, her son Mitchell L. Hanson and his wife Marie of Wakefield, NH. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren Craig C. Hanson, Nathaniel B. Hanson, Scott M. Hanson, and great-grandchildren Zoey A. Hanson and Colby J. Hanson.

She leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years, Kenneth R. Hanson in 1998, brothers Leslie Wilkins, Jr., Lyford Wilkins, and Lloyd Wilkins. Visiting hours will be Friday April 27, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Lord Funeral Home, Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee, NH with funeral services at the First Congregational Church in Center Ossipee, NH Saturday April 28, 2018 at 2:00pm with burial to follow at the Chickville Cemetery.
