Frank W. Hammond, Jr. of Wolfeboro, died on May 10, 2018 at the age of 93 after enduring a long illness with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in New York City to Frank W. Hammond, Sr. and Marion (Mullaney) Hammond in 1924. He graduated from Xavier Jesuit High School in Manhattan.

Frank served in the Pacific in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Pecos and the USS Missouri during the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns. He was present at the surrender of the Japanese on board the Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. He returned to obtain a B.S. degree from Fordham University and a Master’s degree from Columbia University.

He attended an electronics program at the Naval Research Laboratories while in the Navy. He spent 35 years in industry with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in research and development of fuel cells for the Apollo and LEM Programs and nuclear jet aircraft engine at CANEL in Connecticut. He previously was at Sprague Electric in Concord, N.H. where he was involved in materials development for semiconductors.

He conducted management courses at the University of Connecticut and the Hartford Graduate Center of R.P.I.. Frank leaves his beloved wife, Mary T. (Kervick) Hammond of 66 years; 4 children, Frank, III and his companion Jane of Ossipee, NH; Dr. John and his wife Lauren of Wolfeboro, NH; Mary Kathleen of Wolfeboro, NH; and Maureen Sheedy of Milford, Connecticut; 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Colleen, Sean, Kelsey, John and Laura and 2 great grandchildren Alexis and Damien along with many nephews and nieces. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Katherine Drexel Church in Alton, N.H. at 10:00a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018.
