Freedom, NH George H. Thompson of Freedom, NH died and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 4, 2018 surrounded by the love of his family. George was born in Amesbury, MA on September 5, 1931 to George B. and Hetta (Rice) Thompson. He graduated from Drury High School in North Adams, MA in 1949.

He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business Administration from Northeastern University. He proudly served his country as part of the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Regiment (Presidential Honor Guard) in Washington, DC, attaining the rank of Sergeant during the Korean War (1952-1954). He worked at General Electric in Lynn, MA for 40 years from where he retired in 1991 as a support manager in the aircraft engine department.

It was at General Electric that he met his future best friend and wife Ivernia. They married in 1957, settled in Tewksbury, MA, and within eight years they had three sons. A few years later, they decided to complete their family by adopting a baby girl.

George was a member of Tewksbury Congregational Church for 50 years, serving on various boards and committees, as church treasurer for eleven years as well as being a life deacon. Since 2009, he had been a member of First Christian Church of Freedom, serving as a deacon and as a member of the pastoral search committee. George was also active in his community; he volunteered with Mount Washington Habitat for Humanity as well as the Freedom Community Food Pantry in New Hampshire.

In MA, he was a 50 year member of the Wamesit Lodge of Masons and was a committeeman with Boy Scout Troop 47. George was loved by all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband and father, his death leaves a void in all of our hearts.

He is survived by his sons David and his wife Dottie of Londonderry, NH, Mark and his wife Lori of Royalston, MA, Robert and his fiancée Andrea Carney of Bradford, MA; and daughter Nancy Perrin and her husband Ron of Apex, NC, his sister-in-law Geraldine Pierni of Freedom as well as nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at First Christian Church of Freedom on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 2pm with viewing beforehand at 1:30 pm. The burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery immediately following the service.
