Irvin Carl “Butch” Swain, 83, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at his home. Butch was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 2, 1934 to the late Irvin T. and Mable (Cassady) Swain. He was a 1952 Benjamin Bosse High School graduate and retired from Sigeco.

Butch was passionate about working in his workshop and watching and listening to Cardinals baseball. Talented in dance, he was a member of the Friday Night Dance Club and Coterie Dance Club.

Butch and Nancy had the opportunity to house two German Men’s Chorus singers in their home and, later, loved traveling to Germany to spend time with the friends they had made. For his 50th wedding anniversary, he had a dream fulfilled by getting to go up in a hot air balloon. Butch is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy (Atkins) Swain of Evansville, IN; daughters, Deborah Swain of Evansville, IN and Rebecca Karger of Evansville, IN; son, Daniel Swain (Elaine) of Cumming, GA; sister, Sue Bolton of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Katharine “Katie” Karger, and Warner Karger, both of Evansville, IN; and by nieces and nephews.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; and by brother, Tom Swain. A celebration of Butch’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave. , Evansville, IN 47711.

Private family burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 AM until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess VNA Hospice, 610 E. Walnut St., Evansville, IN 47713 or to Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Rd.
