Jack’s Obituary Jack Hoover Jack Hoover departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on December 22, 2018 at his home in Ada, Oklahoma. Robert Jack Hoover was born on March 27, 1929 in Shawnee Oklahoma to Mydalia Moses Hoover and Clarence Franklin Hoover. Jack’s mother, Mydalia was the child of Lebanese parents who emigrated to America and settled in Kansas.
Jack’s parents were kind loving people. They instilled in Jack the values of hard work, being fair, and being considerate of others. Jack attended Shawnee public schools from kindergarten through high school.
He graduated Shawnee High School in 1947 where he was an outstanding leader and talented art student. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee and later transferred to Tulsa University where he became president of his fraternity, Kappa Sigma. Jack graduated from Tulsa University in 1951 with a degree in Fine Arts.
After graduating college, Jack joined the Marine Corps where he served overseas and held the rank of First Lieutenant. Upon leaving the Marines, Jack moved to Ada to join his brother Bill Hoover in establishing KTEN television. While in Ada, Jack met the love of his life Lou Ann Spears in Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
Jack and Lou Ann were joined in marriage on October 4, 1958. Their sixty years of marriage were always filled with adventures. They enjoyed traveling and took countless roads trips across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America.
Jack loved helping people and because of that he became best friends with Polo Vazquez. Their friendship started with Jack providing English lessons to Polo, then progressed when Jack designed the furnishings and layout of Polo’s restaurant in Ada and then finally cemented when they became business partners in restaurant ventures in other Oklahoma towns. Jack’s creative vision is on full display when you walk through Polo’s Authentic Mexican Restaurant and Polo’s Embassy on Main Street in Ada, OK.
Jack’s passions were his love of design and his interest in sports cars. He became well known for being a savvy car guy and his ownership of unusual cars. Of all the cars Jack has owned, he would always say his favorite car was his Packard convertible that he drove in the late 1950’s.
There were so many stories that could be told about that Packard from Brown Hoover being chauffeured by Jack on his first date in the car, to Lou Ann’s dislike of windblown hair. Jack lived life to the fullest with such an optimistic attitude, but his one regret in life was selling that Packard. Jack’s creativity is reflected in the homes he built, and his design aesthetic is recognizable in the homes and businesses he remodeled or renovated in Ada.
Jack was always steadfast in his love of church and God. Jack was a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Ada of high school boys who he was proud to see grow into accomplished men. Jack was also honored to serve as President of the Men’s Brotherhood.
Jack is survived by his wife, Lou Ann of 60 years; four nephews, Brown Hoover of Florida, Jack Morris Hoover of Texas, Cal Hoover of Oregon, and Danny Hoover of Oklahoma. He also leaves behind several people who held a special place in his heart: his great niece Shelly Hoover-Howard of McAlester and Yoli Vazquez of Ada, who were like daughters to him, and Bill Curtis and Melvin Thompson who were longtime friends and who worked with him on his countless remodeling projects. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Hoover.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ada First Baptist Church Falls Creek Building Fund. A public service will be at 11:00AM Friday at Ada First Baptist Church. A graveside service for family will be preceding at 10:00AM at Rosedale Cemetery.
The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
