Obituary for Jack Wilmer Walker A witty and funny jokester, who enjoyed making people laugh, Jack W. “Mope” Walker, age 94, of Bellbrook, passed away Tuesday, September 18th, 2018. Jack was born November 24th, 1923 to Mary Walker (Harsh) and Wilmer Walker. He was a 1941 graduate of Roosevelt High School.
Jack worked as a right-of-way adjuster for Dayton Power & Light before retiring in 1983. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the VFW Post 9927 and the American Legion Post 598, both in Kettering. Jack was passionate about scouting.
He was a founder and neighborhood commissioner of the Boy Scouts Explorer Troop 75 who earned the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given as a scout. In his early years, Jack was a talented baseball player who contracted with the Dayton Indians, a minor league team of the Cleveland Indians, and was inducted into the Dayton Softball & Baseball Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Mark Walker.
Jack is survived by his wife of 72 years, Martha J. (White), two sons, Michael Walker (Pat Wilson) of Bellbrook and Dale Walker (Patricia) of Bellbrook, and daughter, Carole Hartman (Walt) of Beavercreek; six grandchildren Matt Walker (Susie), Deena Williams (Joe), Denise Benetis (Jim), Laura Wilford (Gareth), Jaclyn Phillips (Christian) and Jenna Hartman; eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. You are invited to celebrate his life with family and friends on Monday, September 25th, from 6-8 pm at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook. Graveside services will be 11:00 am on Tuesday at Bellbrook Cemetery, 3939 Upper Bellbrook Rd.
