St. Charles- Jacob Michael Maughan, died unexpectedly on October 11th, 2018. Jacob was born April 26th, 1995 in Geneva, Illinois. He was a life-long resident of Saint Charles, IL, and recently lived in Pekin with his father.
Jacob attended Saint Charles East High School, graduating in 2013. He attended Waubonsee Community College, majoring in criminal justice because of his desire to help others. His goal in life was to train, recruit, and become a United States Marine.
He worked detailing cars and enjoyed making them beautiful again. He attended First Baptist Church in Geneva, now known as Chapelstreet Church, all throughout his youth and young adulthood. Since living in Pekin, he was actively involved in New Life Church in Morton, IL and especially their groups, “Celebrating Recovery”, “Marksmen Men’s Ministry”, and “The Armory”.
He was a member of his High School Wrestling team for all four years, as well as in middle school. Jake enjoyed working out, listening to and sharing music, rock climbing, studying the Bible, and drawing. Fond memories include: Camping and fishing with his family, driving in the summer with the windows down with his brother, video gaming with friends and siblings, and binge-watching various TV shows and movies with his family.
He also enjoyed keeping in touch with his many friends and worked to inspire those around him to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jacob wished to encourage those who struggled in life with hope for the future. As a son he was known to be passionate, tenderhearted, faithful, funny and loyal—even making funny faces at his parents to get out of trouble and make them laugh.
As a brother he was inspiring, caring, giving, humorous and adventurous. He did everything he could to bring a smile to the faces of those around him. He is survived by his parents Ralph and Melinda (Soderstrom) Maughan, sister Lindsay, brother Matthew; paternal grandparents, Paul and Ruth Maughan, many aunts, uncles, cousins, his lifelong best friends Caleb Hall and Cameron Carlson, and many others.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Al and Jean Soderstrom, and cousin Jordan Soderstrom. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18th from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State St., Geneva, IL. Memorial Services will be held at Chapelstreet Church, 2300 South Street Geneva, IL beginning at 10:30am on Friday, October 19th.
