Obituary for Jamah Sherman Gatlin Jamah Sherman Gatlin was born to Letha Johnson and Sherman Clendon on November 2, 1992, in Brooklyn, NY. He was the youngest of five children on his maternal side, and the youngest of four children on his paternal side. Jamah departed this earth on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, leaving a void in all of our hearts.

At a young age, Jamah and his older siblings moved to Jamaica, Queens to live with their grandparents: Fred and Novella Gatlin. At a young age, Jamah became known in the family as “Mane Mane”. Upon retirement, Fred and Novella adopted the five siblings and moved to Louisville, KY in the summer of 1996.

Once settled in Louisville, Jamah began attending the Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School and he also attended Jefferson County High School. His grandmother made sure he attended church, so he often attended Old Landmark along with his siblings, and would sometimes attend King Solomon with his grandfather. It wasn’t until Jamah got much older that he became to know God for himself, and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

Jamah would always talk about God, and how he’d come to build his own relationship with God overtime, through the different trials that he’d gone through. As he faced trials, he was never without that big, bright smile. As Jamah grew older and more independent, he traveled often to New York City, to spend time with his mother Letha, as well as his father Sherman, and three sisters, Tawanda, Tanya, and Tanette.

Although he lived in Louisville, Jamah always knew he was a New Yorker — that was a strong part of his identity and he wouldn’t let you forget that. Jamah was fearless, confident, and spiritual in his own way. He had big hopes and dreams, too.

In the summer of 2014, he began pursuing his dreams of becoming an artist; a goal he pursued on and off. May his spirit and the memories we cherish continue to live with us all. Jamah is preceded in death by his grandmother/adopted mother, Novella Gatlin.

He lives to carry on his legacy his mother, Lisa Johnson; father – Sherman Clendon; grandfather/adopted father, Fred Gatlin, Sr; one brother, Marquis Gatlin, and six sisters (both maternal and paternal): Marquia Gatlin, Andrea Gatlin, Nakeima Gatlin, Tawanda Clendon, Tanya White, and Tanette Clendon. He also leaves behind 9 nieces, and 5 nephews. Many cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family members and friends will also continue to miss Jamah.

May he continue to rest in peace. ———————————————- To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Jamah Sherman Gatlin please visit our Sympathy Store.
