Obituary for Martha Anne Lincoln Kannapell Martha Anne Frances Lincoln Kannapell passed away on May 22, 2018, at Nazareth Home in Louisville at the age of 95 years. She was born May 15, 1923, in Louisville, the second child of Dennis J. and Josephine O’Connell Lincoln. She grew up in the Portland area and spent her whole life in Louisville and Prospect.

She graduated from Loretto High School and received a bachelor’s degree in English from Ursuline College. She then earned a master’s degree in journalism from Marquette University in Milwaukee. Along with her husband, Deacon David H. Kannapell, she was active in ecumenical and civic organizations.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Christ the King Church. Other memberships included the Kappa Gamma Pi Honorary Society, Church Women United, and the Loretto Bridge Club friends sewing circle. She was a founding member of the Kappa Gamma Pi Catholic Lending Library.

She was an avid tennis player, and remained riveted by professional tournaments to the end of her life. Before becoming a full-time mother, she worked for the Jefferson County Department of Recreation, taught journalism at Ursuline College, contributed to The Record (the local Catholic newspaper), worked at WAVE-TV, and edited the Women’s Page for the newspaper. She was predeceased by her husband, David, and sister, Mary Murray Lincoln (Mrs. John F. Frailey).

She is survived by eight children: Joseph (Linda), Mary (Mark Foster), David, Alice (Marc Debbaudt), Henry (Cecily), Tuney (Dan Goering), Andrea, and Leonard (Vera Trainer); 12 grandchildren: Jeremy (Naomi), Rebecca, Miriam, Caitlin (Darren Rappa), Brennan, Bethan, Matthew, Nicole, Julia, Claire, Roberto, and Stephanny, and a great-granddaughter, Nola. Her family offers special thanks to Beverly Lawrence, Sally Spagnolo, family friend Nancy Glaser and the caring staff at Nazareth Home. Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities, Holy Trinity Church, Right to Life of Louisville, or your charity of choice.
