On Saturday, February 23, 2019, James Alva Harris Sr. unexpectedly passed away at the age of 79. James (Jimmy) was born on October 19, 1939 to Earl and Pearl Harris. He was saved at 14 years of age at Whitesburg Baptist Church.

James was an active member and deacon at Free Spirit Missionary Baptist Church and is survived by a wonderful church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Pearl Harris; and sister, Sandra Ann Worthington. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy White Harris; son, James and Penny Harris; daughter, Terrie and Dana Daugherty; son, Heath and Lisa Harris; along with 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; one aunt; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

There are plenty of things that Jimmy was skilled at but, overall, he was the greatest husband, daddy, papaw, and pappy, and he loved the Lord. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Free Spirit Baptist Church. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Department, Hawkins County EMS, and the Hawkins County Coroner.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, February 28, 2018, at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Jerry Bradley and Rev.
