James’ Obituary Mr. James “Chat” Chatters, Jr. was born to James and Willie Bee Chatters on August 19, 1940 in Widner, Arkansas on Sweet Brothers Farm. During his early years (the first and second grades) he attended Spring Grove Elementary School in Haynes, Arkansas. The family moved to his grandparents’ farm in New Castle, Arkansas, where he attended Eddy Hill Elementary School from the second to sixth grades.

During his teen years he worked on the family farm and attended Lincoln High School in Forrest City, Arkan- sas. Upon graduation, he attended Arkansas Mechanical and Normal College (now known as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff). He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education.

He was also a Cub Scout Master. He taught school in his hometown for three years, and for five years in Adult Education in Wynne, Arkansas. He later taught in the Lee County School District for eighteen years, retiring in 1989 with a total of twenty-five years in education.

After retiring, he worked several jobs until 1991 when he was employed by the First Judicial District as a Juvenile Intake Officer for three counties. He was a member of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jesse McClure before passing. He served as Superintendent of Sunday School, on the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Men and Father’s Day Program, and a former member of the Choir.

He also worked in Fargo and drove the van for the senior citizens before retiring from all jobs. Friends and relatives are invited to post messages & share memories. Most entries will be reviewed within 24 hours.
