James Delbert Cunningham “Pops”, 69, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019. He was the 5th child of 6 siblings born on June 24, 1949 in Hurricane, West Virginia to Edward and Geraldine Cunningham. James moved with his family to Downey, California when he was 9 years old.

He attended public schools and received his high school diploma. James joined the United States Army where he served a tour in Vietnam and received an honorable discharge. He worked for Mathews Inc as a type setter for 15 years.

In 1981, James and his family moved to Oklahoma. He began a 22 year career with the Muskogee Police Department. He retired at the age of 55 as a Sergeant Major.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Margaret Cunningham, Yvonne Runyun, Edward E Cunningham, and Sheila Kerr. James is survived by his wife, Karen, of the home; children, Dana Dunlap (Tony) of Portland, OR, Anthony Bevilacqua (Marilee), Heather Cunningham, James P. Cunningham (Renee’), all of Tahlequah, OK, Shelby Jackson (Amanda) of Muskogee, OK, and Rhonda Fulton (Justin) of Staunton, VA; 23 grandkids; 8 great-grandkids; sister, Jessie Burdette of WV; extended family, Larry and Andrea Stewart and their four children; his 3 fur babies, along with many other family members and friends. Pops loved fishing, golfing, NASCAR, his morning coffee on the front porch, but most important, was loving his family.

His day always included watching cowboy movies, Andy Griffith, and Mash. Pops will be greatly missed. The family will greet friends from 1-4PM, Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating James’ life will be 10AM, Monday, May 20, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Randy Wickett officiating. Interment will follow at 12PM at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with military honors being presented. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of James D.
