Obituary for James E. Athanaelos James Edward Athanaelos, 88, passed away June 6, 2018. A native of Greer and North Augusta, son of the late John and Nettie Collins Athanaelos, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard, was a retired employee of DuPont Savannah River Plant in Aiken, South Carolina, a former member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Moore, South Carolina. Surviving are his wife, Joan Edwards Oliver Athanaelos of the home; one son, James Edward Athanaelos, Jr. of Gulfport, Mississippi; a daughter, Carolyn Turner (Dell) of Greer; a grandson, Tony Waddell; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Gillian; and a great-great-grandson, Ezra Gillian.

Mr. Athanaelos was predeceased by one son, Steven Oliver. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at The Wood Mortuary. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held 12:00-1:45 p.m. Saturday at The Wood Mortuary. The family is at the home. Online condolences may be made at www.
