James Hammond Sr December 7, 1935 – November 13, 2018 James Edmond Hammond Sr, 83 of Toledo, Oregon passed away November 13, 2018 of natural causes. James was born to John G Hammond and Della Paine December 7, 1935 in Toledo, Oregon. James was raised and made his home in Toledo.
The same home in which he was born, is also the home where he stayed until he left this world. James married Nina Tharp on October 14, 1965 in Reno, Nevada. They were married for 50 years, until Nina passed in 2016.
They had five children: Lyle Hammond, Lori Schoepp, James Hammond Jr., Teri Watson, and John Hammond. James was 15 when he went to work for CD Johnson lumber mill. After pulling lumber on the green chair, he moved on to truck driving.
James drove log truck for years. In the early years he owned his own log truck but went to work for Jim Goodell in the mid 60’s. James worked for JL Goodell Trucking for 20 years as a log truck driver and mechanic on the weekends.
James loved the logging industry and shared many memories. James loved the classics: John Wayne movies, Johnny Cash music, Budweiser beer, and any car that was jet black. James loved classic cars.
He owned a 36 Ford, 3 window coupe which he cherished. He loved going to classis cars shows and walking around and looking at all the cars. James loved working around his house, in the yard and keeping things neat and clean.
One summer James spent the entire summer removing every blackberry on all their property. What a task! But that is the kind of task my dad enjoyed, hard work that produced remarkable results.
