James Lacey was born on November 18th, 1970 in Summit, New Jersey to Thomas and Alice. After high school, James became a fisherman for the fishing industry. During his life, he moved to live in Newport, Oregon with his wife.

On January 8th, 2019 James passed away in a tragic boating accident. A vigil was held with over 100 friends, family and community members gathering at Yaquina Bay State Recreation Site Wednesday night to pay tribute to the who men died when the Fishing Vessel Mary B II was swamped by a wave on the Newport bar late Tuesday. The Newport Fishermen’s Wives have set up a fund to help the families and have been working particularly to aid the wife of James Lacey.
