James Ritter, 79, of Tompkinsville passed away Thursday, January 31 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. He was born September 6, 1939 in Monroe County, KY to the late Haskel Ritter and Ester Short Ritter. He was a member of Germany Church of Christ and a former Elder, he attended Lumber Grading School in Memphis, he was owner of James Ritter Lumber Company and a farmer.

He was united in marriage in 1958 to the former Anna Copas in Livingston, TN. He is survived by his wife: Anna Copas Ritter of Tompkinsville, two sons: Michael Short and wife Gaye, Jeffrey Ritter and wife Angela, three daughters: Joni Brown and husband Ronnie, Suzanne Keele and husband Alan, Teresa Hale and husband Scott, one sister: Sharon McDermott all of Tompkinsville, twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother: Glen Ritter, two sisters: Allene Ritter and Louise Spear.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 3 at 2:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00PM on Saturday, February 2 and after 7:30 AM on Sunday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Memorials are suggested to the Bailey Cemetery.
