Obituary for James Haas James Haas, age 74, a long time resident of Guilford, beloved husband of Jean Haas for over 45 years passed away on December 24, 2018. Born in New York, he was the son of George and Helen Haas. Jim attended Notre Dame High School in West Haven, and graduated from Yankton College in South Dakota where he was a walk-on lineman for the varsity football team.
Along with his wife Jean, Jim is survived by his children Michael (Kristen) Haas, Brian (Andrea) Haas and Lesley Haas as well as six grandchildren along with his sister Ellen Mimi (Brian) Morrissey, brother Russell (Patricia) Haas, nephew Mark DellaValle and nieces Christine DellaValle and Heather Haas. He was predeceased by his brother Georgie. Jim was the proud President of Vosburgh Moving & Storage Company in West Haven and later Branford, a company originally founded by his father George.
Jim was a tireless worker who enjoyed carrying on the family business with his sister Mimi, brothers Georgie and Russ as well as his sons and nephew who all worked at Vosburgh. Jim also established Aim Oil and Affordable Heating & Cooling Service. He was a Life Member and past Commodore of the Indian Neck Yacht Club in Branford.
Jim could, and would, fix anything and he was the first person you called if the heat went out, the car wouldn’t start or you were adrift in Long Island Sound. He loved his family, tackling hard projects and fishing with friends and co-workers on his boat Freedom VI. He will be sorely missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Church, West Haven, on Wednesday at 10AM. Interment will be Thursday, at St. George’s Cemetery in Guilford at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to National Multiple Sclerosis Society Connecticut Chapter 659 Tower Avenue, 1st Floor Hartford, Connecticut, 06112.
