James’ Obituary James Rex Haddox, 94, of McComb, peacefully passed away at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green. He was born October 16, 1924, to the late Merritt and Florence (Aukerman) Haddox. He married Barbara Jean Williams on August 31, 1947.

Jim passed three months to the day of his loving wife Barbara. Jim is survived by children: Diane (John) Hohn, Forest; Linda Parente, Findlay; Patricia (Greg) Adams, Chaska, Minnesota; Nancy (Lee) Lilly, Avon, Indiana; and James W. (Carol) Haddox, McComb; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Jim graduated from McComb High School in 1942 where he was class president all four years.

Jim continued that leadership by organizing a yearly class reunion in Findlay for those who could attend, until the last one, their 75th in June 2017. Shortly after graduation, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1943 and was a Weather Observer in the 5thAir Force, FEAF (Far Eastern Air Force) 15th and 20th Weather Squadrons serving in Eastern New Guinea and Leyte Island in the Philippines and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1946. After the war he finished his education and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1949.

Jim was an accountant with the Cloyd Grubb Motor Company, Gar-Wood Industries, and the Ohio Oil Company/Marathon. Jim and his son Jimmie were the proud owners of the McComb Lumber Company for many years. He was past president of the McComb Lions Club and was a member of the McComb United Methodist Church.

Jim served on the Village Council for eight years and was mayor for two terms. During his years as mayor of McComb, Jim was instrumental in convincing the leadership of Consolidated Biscuit Company to build their plant in McComb, which opened in 1963. Jim liked working and sitting in his yard and listening to the Big Band music of the 1930s and 1940s.

He enjoyed swimming at the lake and proudly sharing the many accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. One of Jim’s greatest honors in recent years was being given the opportunity to experience an Honor Flight. He was proud to be an American Patriot and to have served his country.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 11:00-3:00 p.m. with funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the HARTLEY- HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 370 Park Dr S., McComb, Ohio, with Rev. Howard Mayne, officiating. Interment will be in the McComb Union Cemetery, where Military Honors will be rendered by the Hancock County Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McComb United Methodist Church and Bridge Home Health and Hospice.
