Obituary for James “Jim” A. Hess James “Jim” Anthony Hess, age 70 of Canal Winchester, passed away on October 13, 2018, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. He was born on January 23, 1948 in Atlantic City, NJ, to the late Emery and Elsie Hess.

He grew up in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Serra High School in McKeesport, Pennsylvania in 1965. He moved to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University, and graduated with a degree in Production and Operation Management in 1976. James met the love of his life, Patricia L. Kirby in 1966.

They married in 1967, and have 4 children; James Brian, Rhonda, Tricia, and Christopher. Jim worked at Crane Plastics for 35 years before retiring. Over the years, Jim enjoyed watching OSU football, playing golf, bowling, dancing, making and selling candles, cross stitch, making knit hats, and reading mysteries.

He attended Sycamore Creek Church, Pickerington, Ohio, where he helped with the production team. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Jim is preceded in death by sister, Susan and Chuck Hummel; nephew, Steven Hummel; in laws, Bert and Leora Kirby; grandson, Jonathan Phillips and son in law, Kevin Gearheart.

Jim leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Patricia (Kirby) Hess; children, James Brian “J.B.” Hess, Rhonda Phillips, Tricia Hess, Christopher Hess; sister, Renee (Dennis) D’Amico; grandchildren, Brooke, Melinda, Mollie, Emmilie, Thomas, Courtney, Nichole; many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and other close friends. Family and friends may call at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. CHAPEL 1346 S. High St. on Monday, October 22nd from 4 PM until the service begins at 7 PM.

In honoring Jim, everyone is encouraged to wear their OSU gear and attire. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s name to Peace United Methodist Church, Helping Hands Medical Equipment Ministry 235 Diley Road, Pickerington, Ohio 43147.
