James Albert Smith 1933 ~ 2018 KAYSVILLE – James Albert Smith (Jim), beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed from this life on September 28, 2018. James, the son of Wilford Gabriel and Rildah Smith was born on January 4, 1933. He grew up on the family farm in West Kaysville, Utah.

In 1952 he met his lifelong sweetheart, Ramola Leavitt on a blind date. They were married in the St. George, Utah, Temple for time and all eternity on June 19, 1953. To this union were born seven children; Eva Lynne, Barbara, Paul, Allen, Vernon, Phillip and Nicole.

Jim and Ramola had a wonderful adventure together in this life for nearly 62 years as companions. They lived in Kaysville, Utah most of that time, but also spent a memorable 16 years in Fairbanks, Alaska. They made lifelong friends everywhere they went and kept in touch with these friends throughout their lives.

Jim was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life and was a faithful servant of the Lord. Jim was an educated man who loved the simple things in life. Though he earned a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees, his favorite things were being with his beloved Ramola and their family, spending time writing, farming, gardening, tinkering with mechanical stuff and using his hands to create beautiful things.

He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Ramola, his parents, Wilford and Rildah (Moss) Smith, and two great grandsons, Daniel and Andrew Glissmeyer. Surviving him are his brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Bernice Smith and sisters-in-law, Beverly Leavitt, and Beverly Weeks. He is also survived by his seven children and their spouses; Eva Lynne (Steven) Stites, Barbara (Stephen) Duncan, Paul (Lora) Smith, Allen (Julie) Smith, Vernon Smith, Phillip (Teri) Smith and Nicole (Jeff) Gabor.

He also leaves 41 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Smith Lane Ward, 1449 South Thoroughbred Way, Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit with family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main St. and Saturday from 11:15 to 12:15 p.m. at the church.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
