Lawrence Edward Welling December 30, 1925 ~ September 30, 2018 KAYSVILLE – Lawrence Edward Welling passed away peacefully in his Kaysville, Utah home on Sunday, September 30, 2018. He was born on December 30, 1925 at the family home in Farmington, Utah to Edward Hunter and Sarah Rasminnie Nielsen Welling. He was the youngest of six children with five older sisters.

He attended Davis County Schools graduating from Davis High School while serving in the Army Air Corps. He flew reconnaissance missions over Japan in the famous B-29 Super Fortress as a crew member. With an honorable discharge, he attended Weber State College receiving an Associate Degree.

Lawrence married the love of his life, Kathryn Peterson, on January 17, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Eastern States Mission with Kathryn joining him as his companion for a time. He attended the University of Utah where he earned both a BS and MS degree in Elementary Education.

He also attended Brigham Young University where he was awarded an Ed. D degree. Lawrence taught school in Bountiful and Layton, Utah.

He was the first principal of Crestview Elementary School in Layton. He was later appointed Assistant Superintendent and finally Superintendent of Schools for Davis County. Lawrence was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of assignments: Bishop’s Counselor, Ward and Stake Sunday School President, High Councilor, Stake President, and Regional Representative.

He and his wife served as missionaries in Hawaii, as Mission President of the West Virginia Charleston Mission, at the Senior Missionary Training Center, as temple ordinance workers and as Counselor and Assistant Matron in the Bountiful Temple Presidency. He is survived by his wife Kathryn and their five children; Stephen and Suzanne Gunnell Welling of Orem, Douglas and Martha Hatcher Welling of Fruit Heights, Elise and Keith Major of Fruit Heights, Sue Ann and Bradley Caldwell of Kaysville, Michael and Melinda Chipman Welling of Grand Junction, Colorado and foster daughter Sharon and Ernie Ulibarri of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He cherished every one of his twenty-six grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren.

Lawrence Edward Welling— husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend— will be dearly missed by his loved ones near and far. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville Fourth Ward LDS Chapel at 875 East 200 North, Kaysville. Friends may visit with family Wednesday, October 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 Main Street, Kaysville, Utah and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to contribute to the Temple Construction Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
