James Dee “Jim” Boyd Jr., 89, husband of 63 years to Martha Anne Holbrook Boyd, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, May 18, 2018 at The Forum at Brookside in Louisville. Mr. Boyd was born on July 14, 1928 in Walker County Alabama to the late Nora and James Dee Boyd, Sr He was raised in Eastern Kentucky where he grew up playing football and went on to graduate from Lynch High School.

He continued to further his education by receiving his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College in 1950. While attending Georgetown College he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order and a 4 year letterman on the football team. After graduation he served in the US Army including one year in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

After returning from Korea he went on to obtain his master’s degree from the University of Kentucky and while there met his future wife. They married in June of 1954. Jim taught and coached at Whitesburg High School and at Anderson County High School where he was also principal.

Jim later had a career as a sales representative for Holt, Rinehart and Winston with whom he won numerous sales awards. He also started the first Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle at Anderson County High School and was a huddle leader. Mr. Boyd was a longtime member at First Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg where he was a Sunday school teacher, RA leader and deacon.

He served on Georgetown Colleges Board of Trustees and is a member of the Georgetown College Athletic Hall of Fame. Jim loved his Lord, Jesus Christ and strived every day to be Christ-like. He was a family centered man and loved his family unconditionally.

He also loved in no particular order First Baptist Church, Georgetown College, Anderson County High School, Eastern Kentucky and golf. Along with his wife Jim is survived by one son, James Paul (Kim) Boyd, of Louisville; two grandchildren, Erin, Lexington and Brandon (Emily) Lawrence, Louisville; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Ethlyn Boyd (Venon) Whitaker and Marieta Boyd Bentley.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert F. Ehr officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Casket bearers will be Charlie Cammack, Charlie Grote, Bob Kincer, Brandon Lawrence, David Hartley and Burt Hahn. Serving as honorary bearers will be the Deacons at First Baptist Church.
