Obituary for James “Jim” W. Fischer James W. “Jim” Fischer, age 72 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018 at home. Jim was born in Huntingburg, Indiana, on November 2, 1945 to Arthur J. and Lorene Rose (Blessinger) Fischer. He married Shirley Hopf on October 2, 1969 in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

He served in the Indiana Army National Guard, and was a member of the St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 where he served on the Honor Guard. Jim retired from Kimball International after 39 years of service, and then worked for St. Vincent de Paul for 10 years. He served for 4 years on the Jasper City Council.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, where he served as an usher and server, and was a member of their Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus and the St. Anthony Conservation Club. He was a I.U. basketball and Notre Dame football fan.

He enjoyed playing cards and visiting the casino with his family, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Fischer, Jasper, two sons, Scott Fischer (Audrey), Jasper, Mike Fischer (Stacey), Jasper, four grandchildren, Abby, Riley, Reece, and Ty Fischer, four sisters, Joan A. Schwenk (Louis), Jasper, IN, Marilyn C. English (Richard), Vincennes, IN, Diane M. Fischer, St. Anthony, IN, and Ramona A. Roach (Dale), Bloomfield, IN, one brother, Gerald L. Fischer (Jane), Jasper, IN, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Donna Elizabeth Fischer, and one brother, David Joseph Fischer.

A Mass of Christian Burial for James W. Fischer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, IN. The St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 will conduct military gravesite rites. A visitation will be held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at the church on Friday.
