Obituary for Mr. James “Jimmy” Philip Smith James “Jimmy” Philip Smith, 69, of Frederick passed away at his home surrounded by family on October 15, 2018. Born November 14, 1948, Jimmy was the son of the late Edna B. Smith and Nathaniel Leroy Lyles and stepson to James O. Thompson of Frederick, MD. James attended the Maryland School for the Deaf, being the first African-American to attend and graduate from the school.

Jimmy enjoyed playing cards and watching sports with friends. James worked at Wags Restaurant, Chat & Chew and the H&R Store. He enjoyed his work, never wanting to take off, even during this illness.

James is survived by: daughters, Annetta McQuarters of Washington, DC and Kendra Wood of Martinsburg, WV; stepdaughter, Ange Tique Jordan of Upper Marboro, MD; son, Damon McQuarters of Washington, DC; sister, Wendy Thompson; brother, Gregory S. Smith; sister in-law, Aritha Smith all of Frederick, MD; brother-in-law, Charles Lovett of Stafford, VA; and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by: sister, Jeanette Lovett; brother, Nathaniel Smith; niece, Gina Summers; and nephew, Ira Phillips. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26 at the Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 West South Street, Frederick, MD 21701 at 11:00 AM, with public viewing at 9:30 AM.

Family will receive friends at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow services at Fairview Cemetery, Frederick, MD. Pastor Rex R. Bowens, Sr. will officiate.
