He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and loyal friend. Jim was born in Rochester, MN on May 25, 1967 where he lived until the age of 2 when his family moved to Washington State.

He spent most of his childhood in the Kirkland and Renton communities on the Eastside of Seattle until he graduated from Renton’s Hazen High School in 1985. After high school graduation he enrolled in the Arizona Automotive Institute in Glendale, AZ where he received his Diesel Mechanic certification on December 12, 1986. He returned to the Renton area where he worked in the automotive industry until he was hired by The Boeing Company on August 15, 1988 where he remained a dedicated employee until his death.

On February 16, 2002 Jim married his Best Friend and love of his life, Cynthia Shields. They began a life full of love, laughter and faith together in Renton before moving to Stanwood, WA in July of 2006. They welcomed their daughter Rachel in December of the same year.

The Zerby Family settled into their new life and rooted themselves into the community where they planned to live until Rachel’s High School graduation and Jim’s retirement in 2025. Jim is survived by his wife Cynthia Zerby and daughter Rachel Zerby of Stanwood, WA, mother Karen Zerby and brother Daniel Zerby of Moses Lake, WA. He also leaves behind many loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, In-Laws, Nieces, Nephews and friends Jim considered family.

Jim will be remembered as a loving and extremely generous man of God. And in the spirt of his generosity we ask, that in leu of flowers, donations be made to Courtney Erikson’s lifesaving lung transplant funding campaign at cota.org/campaigns/cotaforteamcourtney.
