James N. Baker, 90, of Davenport, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at ManorCare Health Services, Davenport. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 11 a.m. with a visitation from 10 a.m. until the service at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate where military honors will be performed by the Moline American Legion Post 246.

Memorials may be made to Real Life Church, P.O. Box 788, Bettendorf, IA, 52722. James was born on March 12, 1928, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Elwood S. and Adelia E. Schwarck Baker. He married Ruth Weller and together they had two lovely daughters, Jackie and Starr.

James later married Evelyn Mullen on November 14, 1964, in Muscatine, IA. He retired from the Moline Dispatch in May 1994 after 41 years of service. James was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army.

He was a long-time member of Real Life Church of Davenport, formerly known as Living Water Family Church. James enjoyed talking on the CB radio, listening to country music, dancing, and flying remote controlled airplanes. Survivors include his daughters, Starr (Jamie) Lortie, McGregor, IA, and Judy Baker, Moline, IL; grandchildren, Heather (John) Silvers, McGregor, IA, Chad Ferguson, McGregor, IA, Jeff Ferguson, Lancaster, WI, Timothy (Amanda) Baker, Davenport, IA, Nikki Oettinger, Matthew Oettinger; and many great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; son, James; daughter, Jackie; grandson, Benji; brothers, Howard and Ed; and sister, Cora.
