Obituary for Danny D. Gatewood Danny D. Gatewood, 67, of Key West, Floriday, formerly of Decatur, Nebraska, died Thursday, May 24, 2018, at his home in Key West, while in his recliner looking out on his “million dollar view”. Danny was born August 14, 1950. He graduated from Lyons-Decatur Northeast High School and Little Priest Tribal College in Winnebago, Nebraska.

He married Cheryl Finnell in 1969, with whom he had two children. He later married a country-western singer, Frankie {LAST NAME}. He lived one winter in a school bus in Decatur before living in a cave in North Dakota for a winter, which he spent hunting black bear.

He lived for two years in Hawaii and then traveled across the U.S. on motorcycle with his cousin, John Gatewood, before settling in Key West. Danny worked many jobs, including a heavy equipment operator, chef, real estate agent, commercial fisherman, and lastly as a taxi driver for 20 years. He was also a schrimsander, and was proud to have sold his work to Kenny Chesney and Andrew Zimmern.

He is survived by his sons, Tim (Tracy) Gatewood of Wahoo, Nebraska, and David (Chelsea) Gatewood of Yutan, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Tim, Taylor, Tessa and Sarah; his mother and step-father, Barb and Jerry Bates of Decatur; his father, Dale Gatewood; and siblings, Diane Fox of Moline, Peg and Mike Bucy of Decatur, and Rebecca and Bill Cotton of Hubbard, Nebraska.
