James Najeb Bashoor was born in Washington, D.C., on July 14, 1931 to James and Alice Bashoor and was the fourth youngest of seven children. He attended public schools and excelled in sports. He was a champion in track.

His family moved from Washington, D.C., to Hyattsville, Maryland after graduating from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. He loved living in Maryland and took a great deal of pride in building brick flower beds, tool sheds, and taking care of the yard work, including panting flowers and scrubs. He lived in the family home until his death at 87 years old.

He was drafted in the United States Army, February 19, 1952 and was sent overseas during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Ocean Service medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After two years in the Army he was honorably discharged from the Army on January 27, 1954.

After being discharged from the Army he obtained a job with the Giant Food Chain and worked there until his retirement after 31 years. He exercised and worked out for several years at the Greenbelt Health Center and took care of the health by exercising regularly. He loved the family dog, “Toy” and also his own dog, “Duke”.

He is survived by his sister Alice (Arnold) Davis. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Bashoor, his sister, Catherine Rawlings Feurt, and his brothers, Michael, Raymond, Norman, and Bobby. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Quantico National Cemetery on Thursday, November 1 at 12 PM.
