Obituary for Jane Powell Civish Tarrance Jane Powell Civish Tarrance 1932 – 2018 Bountiful, UT Our beautiful mother, grandmother, aunt & angel, returned home to our Heavenly Father on Friday, November 9, 2018. Jane was a business woman & a trail-blazer with a quick mind & a level head. Yet her kindness, generosity, sense of humor & loving nature made her a light to everyone she knew.

Jane was born on May 11, 1932 as the 2nd of 3 children to Drucilla Jones Powell Smith and John Vivan Powell. Jane grew up in Price, UT working long hours on the Powell family farm, learning to play the piano & graduating from Carbon High School. In later years, she traveled extensively with her husband—visiting most of the 48 contiguous states & lived also in San Diego & Bakersfield, CA as well as Salt Lake City & Bountiful, UT.

To the world, Jane was known as the owner/operator of Martial Arts Supplies—an establishment that provided much of the supplies to those participating in that sport, in the Salt Lake area, for nearly 40 years. However, to even more people she will be remembered much differently, for her greatest achievement was motherhood. She was considered mother/grandmother not only to her own children but to countless others—many of which she welcomed into her home for, sometimes short, sometimes long, periods of time.

Jane reveled in serving her family, friends, neighbors & strangers. She was truly a “Good Samaritan” to all she met. Jane had a courageous heart & never seemed to shun taking the higher road.

Some of her other loves were: making amazing Sushi, carpentry, animals, nature, music & learning. Jane was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served extensively in the Primary and Relief Society organizations as a teacher and by sharing her talent of music.

She loved Brigham Young’s council “It is our duty…to gather every item of truth…” &, as such, was an avid studier of the Gospel of Jesus Christ both within her own restored Church of Jesus Christ as well as in other religions. She especially enjoyed attending/studying with the 7th Day Adventists, Eckankar & Church of Religious Science congregations in Salt Lake City. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert Vivan Powell, Sr. and John Edward Powell, her son Steven Civish, her husband Derral Gene Tarrance, Sr., 2 of her step-grandchildren & step-father George Henry Smith.

She is survived by 5 of her children Vicki (Glen) Dial, Frederic (D. Maria) Civish III, Corinne (David Kirkland) Civish, Vivian (Mark) Frederick & Cynthia (Michael) Dempsey. She is also survived by her 3 step-children D. Gene Tarrance, Jr. Debbie Scott & Dianne Mumford, 17 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-great-grandchildren & her ex-husband Frederic Marsh Civish, Jr

She will be cherished in our memories and in our hearts, until she meets us at the gate to welcome us to our Heavenly Home. Friends and family are invited to attend services in her honor. A viewing will be held Friday, November 23, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 990 N. 100 W. Bountiful, UT, with the funeral to follow at 3:00 pm.

Interment will be at the Price City Cemetery.
