Obituary for Valerie Ann Cooper Valerie Ann Cooper 28 Dec 1953 – 6 Nov 2018 Valerie Ann Cooper, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in Orem, Utah, after a courageous 7-month battle with a rare bone cancer. She was born December 28, 1953 in Martinez, California to Valjean and Cheryl Ella Workman Cooper. She was their second child and first daughter.

Valerie grew up in Martinez with her brother Paul, where she and her family played a big part in helping the little Martinez Ward to grow and prosper. She attended local public schools and graduated from Alhambra High School in 1972. She went to college for two years at DVC then completed her studies at Brigham Young University.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1979. She taught in elementary school in Heber for many years. She completed her Masters of Education in 2006 from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA.

After retiring from teaching she spent lots of time as a substitute teacher and volunteering at local elementary schools. Valerie was a faithful and loving member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and joyfully served in many Church callings, including compassionate service, food storage, and chorister in the Relief Society. Valerie enjoyed music, travel, healthy meal planning, and exercise.

She loved being Aunt Valerie to Paul’s 4 children all their lives and now their 12 children. She is very loved by them all. She is survived by her brother Paul and his family, (4 children and 12 grandchildren), and 2 aunts, 2 uncles, and a zillion cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving grandparents; her mother, Cheryl; her father, Valjean; and her sister, Michelle. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and others at Orem Rehab & Skilled Nursing for the loving care and service that they provided during Valerie’s illness. She also enjoyed tremendous support from friends and family over the past 7 months in particular.

The viewing will be at 9:30 am and the funeral at 11:00 am on Monday the 12th of November at the Timpview 5th Ward chapel located at 1000 North 865 West in Orem, Utah. Interment will be the following day at noon at the Orem City Cemetery under the direction of Premier Funeral Services.
