Obituary for Vivian Hestbeck Windley Vivian Hestbeck Windley Cottonwood Heights, Utah Oct 29, 1923 – Nov 11, 2018. Vivian was born in Twin Falls, Idaho to August Theodor Hestbeck and Andrea Nielsen Hestbeck, Danish immigrants. She was raised on the family farm in Murtaugh, Idaho with her 8 brothers and sisters.

She graduated from Murtaugh High School and the Twin Falls Business College, and was a stewardess for Western Airlines for 5 adventure-filled years. During that time she met a manager for Western Airlines who was stationed in Billings, Montana. On their first date he surprised her by taking her fishing in a stream outside Billings.

She was wearing a brand new pair of Levis and when she was wading in the stream the jeans turned her legs blue. We don’t know why there was a second date, but there was, along with many more. She married Laurel A. Windley on February 12, 1951.

Together they had 4 children and lived in Alliance NE, Torrance CA, and finally settled in Salt Lake City UT. A member of the Holladay United Church of Christ, she sang in the choir and served on the Caring Ministry. She and Laurel enjoyed camping and fishing throughout the West.

She loved golfing at Meadow Brook Golf Course, league bowling, playing Bridge and Panguingue with her friends, painting, crafting, and solving cryptoquotes in her head. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Laurel, daughter-in-law Debi Windley, and 7 of her brothers and sisters. Survived by her sister Ada Johnson Ellis of Boise, ID.

Ada and Vivian were joined at the hip for 95 wonderful years. Also survived by her children, Greg Windley UT, Cheryl Fitzgerald (Bill Wood) AK, Judy Bottalla (Roger) IL, Kathryn Windley (Gary DiMauro) NY; her grandchildren, Nate, Joe (Hannah), Megan (Matt), Kevin (Ashley); and her great-grandson Elliot. Special thanks to her grandson Evan and his wife Jenni for their loving care in her final years.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the HUCC Compassionate Action Fund (office@holladayucc.org) or to your favorite charity. Per her wishes, Vivian’s ashes will be scattered with Laurel’s, sometime in the future with family and friends. She will be missed, but hopefully she and Laurel are getting their feet wet in a lovely stream.
