Jane Scott King April 03, 1920 – January 06, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Jane Robbin Scott King of Lampasas County, TX passed away peacefully on Jan 6, 2019 at age 98 following a brief illness. Jane was born on April 3, 1920 to John Daniel Scott and Nellie Blye Robbins Scott, and raised in Stuttgart, AK, along with her brothers and sister, Denver, John, & Mary Bea Scott. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband for 70 years, Stephen Charles King, DDS.

Survived by her sons Stephen C. King, PhD, and Samuel A. King; grandson Stephen C. King, III, granddaughter Diana Deister and grandson-in-law Chris Deister; great-grandchildren Aurora Jane Deister and Bryce Donald Deister; and nieces and nephews, including Jackie and Ed Harrell of Lampasas County. Jane trained to be a nurse in New Orleans, LA, and wed Stephen, Sr., before her graduation (which was prohibited for nursing trainees at the time) prior to his deployment during WWII. During the Korean war, she and her husband moved to several cities with the military; afterward, to Fort Stockton, TX, for eight years, back to Houston, TX, for his specialty training in orthodontia, then to San Antonio, TX, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at St. Mary’s University.

In the early 1970’s, they settled in rural Lampasas County, TX. Jane’s passions included many outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing, gardening, and especially hunting and flying airplanes. For many years she shot and cooked the Thanksgiving turkey for the family, and she once flew down to Mexico to shoot a bear, which then hung on her living room wall for many years.

She earned a pilot’s license, later became a flight instructor, and was a founder of the Lampasas Pilots Association. She continued to fly and teach flying in her Cessna 152 and 182 planes until age 86. Jane loved fishing and swimming and spent many happy summer days with her grandkids doing both.
