Memorial Mass Thursday, May 3, 2018 9:30 AM at St. Christopher R.C. Church Janet A. Schachner, age 66, of Amherst, died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Hospice Buffalo. Born February 18, 1952 in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Al and Lucille (nee Saar) Schachner. Janet earned her Bachelor of Science from D’Youville College, her Masters in Education from SUNY College at Buffalo, and a Masters from the Seminary.

She was a Math teacher at Ascension School in North Tonawanda, St. Gregory the Great in Amherst, and then at Williamsville North High School before retiring. Janet then worked as a Chaplain at Women & Children’s Hospital, Sister’s Hospital, and most recently at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol for over 50 years, retiring with the rank of Lt.

Colonel. She was the sister of James (Jean) Schachner and Thomas (Deborah) Schachner; aunt of Matthew, Amanda and Lauren; and great-aunt of Kirsten, Quintin, Karson, Phillip, and Hailey. Also surviving are many dear friends and colleagues.

There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Thursday at St. Christopher R.C. Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd. , Town of Tonawanda; the Rev.

Msgr. Francis Weldgen officiating. Friends invited.

Inurnment will be cared for privately at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 4043 Maple Road, Suite 105, Amherst, NY 14226, are preferred by the family.
