Funeral services for Janice Heppner, 79, of Norfolk will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, Norfolk: Reverend Dr. Raponzil Drake will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Ave, Norfolk, Nebraska.

Janice died Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Edgewood Vista, Norfolk. Janice Ann (Wagner) Heppner was born Jan. 11, 1939, to Clarence and Edna (Davis) Wagner in Norfolk.

She attended the Norfolk Public Schools. On July 25, 1957, Janice Ann married Darwin Heppner in Norfolk. They made their home in Norfolk and raised four children.

Darwin and Janice just celebrated 61 years of marriage. Janice was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was involved in several activities- The Red Hat Society, Christian Women’s Club, TOPS, and church groups.

She also was a Boy Scout Den Mother, Camp Fire Girl Leader, and a member of the Jefferson Elementary PTO as her four children grew up. She worked at the County Market doing demos and food samples. She also worked at Grant Elementary as a paraprofessional for several years and then retired.

Janice also did the bookkeeping for the family business- Heppner Sanitary Service. Janice was a proud homemaker. She loved to bake sugar and chocolate chip cookies along with banana bread and her family’s favorite birthday cakes.

Janice’s 6:00 pm meals always included a dessert. The family was her number one in life. Janice loved to give to others and make people happy.

After school, she was there for her children and friends in the neighborhood with snacks and goodies. She was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren biggest fan by sitting in the bleachers wearing their school’s sports apparel along with being in the audience for dance recitals. She was a huge Nebraska Husker fan, she was a season ticket holder for many years.

She did not care if it was pouring rain, hot or cold outside, she attended all the games. She even traveled by bus to watch the Huskers play in different states with her grandkids. Theatre and concerts were enjoyed by Janice and her family.

She showed the importance of culture to her family. Janice took her grandkids on vacations, cruises, and tours of Europe. She loved get-togethers.

Janice always had M&M’s and Doublemint gum in her cupboard. She was often found outside near her pond, feeding her Koi fish. She collected movies and cardinals.

Also, she enjoyed going on drives with her husband and was the navigator, always had a map in her hand. She now is with her husband who passed away a month ago, driving together and holding hands. Janice loved the Huskers and the family is requesting anyone who is attending the visitation to wear red or Husker apparel.

Janice is survived by one sister Debi (Bernie) Commerford of Norfolk; a brother-in-law Roger Love of Norfolk; brother-in-law Doug (Tippy) Heppner of Clinton, IA; and sister-in-law Joan Heppner of Norfolk. Janice was a sweet mother to Rick Heppner (special friend JoAnn Leonard) of Norfolk, Jeff (Marj) Heppner of Stanton and Kim (Gary) Frowick of Norfolk. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply.

Janice had 12 grandchildren- Nicolas Heppner, Tabitha Heckens, Megan Frowick-Morgan, Christina Benson, Whitney Svoboda, Kali Frowick, Blake Heppner, Brenna Frowick, Courtney Cowling, Caitlyn Cowling, Hannah Heppner, and Conner Cowling. She also had 16 great-grandchildren who loved hugs from their great-grandma. Also, she has numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Edna Wagner; husband Darwin Heppner; daughter Jodi Cowling; sister Marilyn Love; and brother Dan Wagner. The pallbearers are Tabitha Heckens, Megan Frowick-Morgan, Christina Benson, Whitney Svoboda, Kali Frowick, Brenna Frowick, Courtney Cowling, Caitlyn Cowling, and Hannah Heppner. The honorary pallbearers are Nicholas Heppner, Blake Heppner, and Conner Cowling.
