Elvon went home to tend the fields of Heaven on March 10, 2019. He was a gentle giant with a heart of gold and a joke or a story for everyone he met. He was born to Alfred and Erma (Ofe) Suhr on October 24, 1942 in Elgin Nebraska.
As a young man, he worked on the family farm alongside his father while still keeping up his studies in school. He enjoyed playing football and basketball in school and later as a life long spectator. He played tenor sax in the band as well.
He graduated from Neligh High school in 1960. He moved to Colorado and worked as a deputy for the Greeley County Sheriff’s office for 19 years. He was very proud of his time as a deputy and was given several awards during that time.
He also worked at Monfort feedlot as a jack of all trades. He moved back to Nebraska in 1994. Elvon was married to Vicki (Sebade) Taylor on May 31, 2003.
Always tied to agriculture, he worked for many years for Darling International as a dead stock driver and later KCI picking up restaurant grease to make bio-diesel until his retirement in 2011. He and Vicki lived on an acreage northwest of Norfolk for over 13 years raising cattle, two horses, three rescue dogs and as well as giving sanctuary to many prized Allis Chalmers tractors. He always hoped to be able to return to farming at some point so he was always prepared with the latest issue of Toy Farmer and Antique Farmer.
Elvon was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Elvon loved his grandchildren, auctions and all things tractor. Elvon is survived by his children from a previous marriage, his wife, Vicki Taylor-Suhr of Norfolk, and sons, Cory (Lynn) Taylor of Omaha, Jason (Becky) Taylor of Auburn, daughter Traci (Ryan) Ober of Norfolk; sisters, Elvena Gail (Gary) Weger of Round Rock, Texas, and Jennell Suhr of Elgin; his grandchildren Cassandra Borgmyer of Norfolk, Jacob Taylor of St. Petersburg, Florida, Grant Taylor of Hawaii, Sean and Callie Taylor of Norfolk, Aubrey, Alex and Brooklyn Taylor of Auburn; and his great-granddaughter, Serenity Borgmyer of Norfolk, and numerous friends.
