Jean DeHart Spach, aged 89, passed away peacefully from natural causes on June 1, 2018 in Augusta, Georgia. Jean is survived two sons, James DeHart Spach (Amy Kravitsky Spach) and Robert Christian Spach (Mai Vo Spach) and one daughter, Evelyn Spach Tolin (Jeffrey M. Tolin. ) and six grandchildren.

Her husband, William Matthais Spach, Jr. and her son William Thom Spach, predecease her Jean was born on May 12, 1929 in Durham, North Carolina, to James DeHart and Lois Guffy DeHart Conyer. She graduated from Converse College and married William on June 27, 1953. Thoughout the years she worked as a teacher, and volunteered as a docent at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC, The Whaling Museum in New Bedford, Massachusetts, as a proofreader for Reading for the Blind and Disabled and numerous other volunteer organizations in Winston-Salem, NC, Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI and Chattanooga, TN Jean has requested that there be no services.

Memorial donations can be made to Smile Train, her favorite charity, at 41 Madison Avenue, 28th. Floor, New York, NY 10010.
