Jean J. Carlat, 74, of Kewanee, died Friday, December 14, 2018 at Kewanee Care. Jean was born February 23, 1944 in Blue Island, IL, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Lawall) Jacobsma. Jean graduated from Hammond Technical Vocational High School in Hammond, IN, from Blackhawk College in 1970, and Illinois State University in 1972.

Jean married Donald P. Carat in 1972, he preceded her in death in 2013. Jean is survived by her sister, Ruth Anne Hein of Indianapolis, IN. She was preceded in death… Read More » by her husband; brother, Russell Jacobsma; and brother-in-law, Gary Hein.

Jean was a member and past president of the Lions Club. She was a past president of the Altar and Rosary Society, past president of the Ladies of Columbus, a minister of communion and a lector at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (St. John Paul II Catholic Church) for many years. She was also a substitute teacher for the area schools.

She enjoyed needlepoint and knitting. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, Kewanee. Father Johndamaseni Zilimu will officiate.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 10:50 am on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Visitation School Foundation or St. John Paul II Catholic Church.
