Obituary for JEAN SUSAN MITCHELL Jean Susan Mitchell, 60, of Negaunee, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at her home. Jean was born March 22, 1958 in Ishpeming to Robert William and Margaret Ann (Vance) Mitchell and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1976. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1980 from Northern Michigan University.

Jean was employed as a teacher with the Negaunee Co-op Preschool for many years, then as a sales associate at Touch of Finland in Marquette. Ms. Mitchell was an active, life-time member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee. The church secretary for many years, she was also a member of the choir, fellowship, and prayer shawl ministries.

She enjoyed coordinating the NHS Class of ’76 reunions. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, watching favorite TV shows, and visiting with friends and family. Surviving are her brother, Paul (Margaret ‘Peg’) Mitchell of Ellicott City, Maryland; her niece, Denise (Christian) Frey; and nephew, Gregory Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 3rd at Bethany Lutheran Church, 550 Cherry St, Negaunee, with Rev. Warren Geier officiating.

Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday, and also at a lunch in the church hall following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee are requested.
