Jeanne Looney Bradley Matthews entered this life August 21, 1933, in Hawkins County, Tennessee. She was the second child to the late Mary Francis and Louis Looney. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother and husbands.

As a child, Jeanne was always quiet and unassuming; her best friend was a book. She was always very studious and received excellent grades. Her education started in a one room school house in Zion Hill, Tennessee.

She continued at Swift Memorial Junior College in Rogersville, Tennessee, where she completed both High School and Junior College. She furthered her education at Livingston College in North Carolina and proceeded to Hunter College in New York where she received her Master’s Degree in Social Work. My mother’s career as a licensed clinical social worker spanned for decades from Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and her retirement from Interfaith Medical Center.

My mother demonstrated the characteristics and epitomized what a true role model, scholar, leader, and change agent should be. She found relaxation and enjoyment in bowling as well as casino visits. She leaves to mourn and celebrate her life: a son, Douglas Louis Bradley; grandchildren, Douglas Louis Bradley II, Nia Bradley, and Jesi David Bradley; a sister, Inez Hord; a brother, Jasper David; a niece, Dana Johnson; two great nieces, Ebony Johnson and Emony Johnson; a great nephew, Dwight Cook; several cousins, a host of loved ones, and a special caregiver, Trina Hillyer.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Pam Hord officiating.

Burial will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www. christiansells.com.
