Jerry A. Smith, 61, of Van Wert, OH, died 9:15AM Friday September 28, 2018 at his residence. He was born on October 27,1956 in Van Wert, OH, to William & Helen (Walser) Smith who both preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife Nanette (Poling) Smith, Van Wert, OH; his children: Nikki (Aaron) Gray, Centerburg, OH, Joel Smith and Mary Smith both of Van Wert, OH; grandchildren: Aiden Gray, Logan Gray and Paige Smith; brother: Dennis (Laura) Smith, DeLeon Springs, FL; sisters: Bonita Crone and Rose (Gary) Ickes both of Van Wert, OH; brother in-law Thomas (Molly) Mangette, Lakewood, OH.

Preceding Jerry in death in addition to his parents are a brother William Smith and a sister Helen Mangette. Jerry was retired from Central Mutual Insurance, Van Wert, OH as a Maintenance Technician. He attended the Roselm Christian Church, Roselm, OH.

He was a Veteran of the US Navy and the Lima area horse and harness club for many years. Services will be 10:30AM Friday October 5, 2018 @ Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. Calling will be 4-8PM Thursday October 4, 2018 @ Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory.

Military services will be done by the combined units of the Van Wert American Legion and VFW Posts. Pastor Michael Roose will be officiating. Preferred memorials may go to Community Health Professional Hospice.
