Jerold F. “Jerry” Fisher, age 76, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 following a three month battle with a lung condition. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the Dallmeyer Hall at the Washington County Fairgrounds where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and the American Cancer Society.
Online condolences may be sent for Jerry’s family through the web at www. jonesfh.com. Jerry was born September 7, 1942, the son of Floyd and Ella (Havel) Fisher, at their home south of Riverside, Iowa.
His schooling began at Farmers School and his family moved to Crawfordsville where Jerry graduated high school in 1960. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Ross on December 29, 1963. From 1960-1993 Jerry was employed at the Washington Evening Journal in production.
This was followed by 14 years in maintenance at the United Presbyterian Home. After retiring in 2007, Jerry became a helper at the Uptown Car Wash. He never knew a stranger and was a helper to everyone.
In his earlier years, Jerry’s interests were riding horses, roller skating, hunting, trail riding on his motorcycle, and playing softball on leagues with his son. Later times of fun included jigsaw puzzles and ballroom dancing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Fisher of Washington, IA; son: Jay (Michele) Fisher; grandchildren: Andrea Smith, Kristen (Jared) Williams, and Devon Fisher; and great-grandson, Jayce Williams, all of Ohio; brother, Keith (Doris) Fisher of Westchester, IA; sister, Pat (Daryl) Owens of Washington, IA; and sister-in-law, Edna Fisher of Tuscan, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fred Fisher; brother-in-law, Ron Ross; and sister-in-law, Linda Ross.
