Jerry Gene Ammerman of Akeley, Minnesota, died on May 10, 2018 in Bemidji, Minnesota, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born May 16t, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Clarence & Josephine (Sharbonda) Ammerman. Jerry attended school in Fridley, Minnesota.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He was briefly married to Laura Garrietson and they had a son, Jeremy. In 1980, he married Phyllis Shaw and they had a son, Matthew and a daughter, Linsey.

Most of his working career was spent as a truck driver but before retirement, he also worked as a groundskeeper for a home association. He was a shy but fun-loving and compassionate man. Jerry is survived by his wife; Phyllis, daughter; Linsey of Remer, sons; Jeremy (Cindy Morelli) of Backus, and Matthew of Akeley, granddaughter; Jessica Ammerman of Backus, sister; Sandy Lucas, of Remer, brothers; Robert (Diane), and Tom of Remer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Clarence and Josephine Ammerman, and brother; James Ammerman. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church of Walker, Minnesota at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 19, 2018, with visitation 1 hour before services. Pastor Matt McWaters will officiate.

Honorary Pallbearers for Jerry will be Richard Lucas, Michael Lucas, Albert Ammerman, Aaron Ammerman, Robert Ammerman, Joshua Pound, and Nathan Frank. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Jerry’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker.
