Jessie Olive Bauer Best, age 91 of Emlenton, passed away early Thursday morning, September 27, 2018 at Highland Oaks at Water Run in Clarion. Born June 16, 1927 in Worthington, Armstrong County, she was a daughter of the late Harry Leroy Bauer and Sarah Ocie Swartzlander Bauer. On August 21, 1948 in Knox, she married Edward Junior Best, who preceded her in death on November 20, 2010.

Olive was a secretary for Beels Insurance in Knox and Quaker State in Emlenton along with working for Johnny Garneau’s Restaurant in Clarion, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 720 and the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, both of Knox. Olive enjoyed quilting, sewing and reading and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by three children: daughter, Lori Russell and her husband, Tim, of Emlenton and their four daughters: Megan (Tom) Hourican; Amber Paranick, Natalie Russell and Kelsie (Eric) Kriebel; son: Edward LeRoy Best and his wife, Sandee, of Knox and their three daughters: Melissa (Mike) Caun; Steffanie (Todd) Sell and Jessica (Kurt) Carnahan; son: David M. Best and his wife, Mindy, of Avoca, New York and their four children: Alyssa (Matt) Gustin, Lydia (George) Sweatt; Joshua (Christina) Best and Jordan Best. Olive is also survived by 14 great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Mattson, Myah, Logan, Aidan, Abbi, Saidee, Kyden, Kacen, George Edward, James, Sage, Leah and Salem and a sister and brother, Joye Knight of Clarion and Ross Bauer of Franklin. In addition to her parents and husband, Olive was preceded in death by twin great grandsons, Ethan and Evan; four sisters: Verna Flick, Anna Mae Anderson, Dorothea Cochrane and Jane Bowser; an infant brother, Harry Leroy and her step mother, Gertie Bauer.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2018 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1051 Twin Church Road, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Reverend Karen Parsh, church pastor, officiating over the services. Interment will take place in the St. Paul’s Union Cemetery.
