Jim Bernardo of Midvale, UT passed away on November 26, 2018 at the age of 91. He was born on March 2, 1927 in Magna, UT to Antonio and Rosina Bernardo. He grew up in Bingham Canyon and graduated from Bingham High School in 1945.

He married the love of his life, Arlene Oliver on February 8, 1952. Together they raised 4 children, Suzanne (Mike Jones), Tony (Dawn), Patty (Steve Latimer), and Mike (Stacy), 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Jim grew up in Bingham Canyon and had many fond memories of his childhood, and especially his high school years as a Bingham High Miner.

He played basketball and football, but he excelled at baseball. His memory of home runs, doubles and great plays at 3rd base never faded. He played for Midvale’s Semi-Pro team in the Salt Lake Federation Baseball League.

Dad served 2 years in the United States Army, stationed in Greenland. Dad and Mom married on February 8, 1952, and he never forgot an anniversary. They enjoyed dancing to the big band music of their time, and spent many Saturday nights dancing at the Salt Lake City dance halls.

Mom and Dad were enthusiastic fans of all high school sports, and were proud to be honored as “Super Fans” at the high school state basketball tournament in 1995. Mom and Dad had many great friends, and especially enjoyed many fun trips with their closest friends, Betty and Phil Peterson and Donna and Doyle Yates. Dad was also a charter member of the Mountain View Men’s Golf Club.

He cherished the friendships he made with all of his golfing brothers. Preceded in death by his wife Arlene in 2013, both parents, sisters Lena Sicoli (Augustine), Teresa Schaeling (Howard), and Mary Ann Leonard, and brother Danny Arnone (Phyllis). Survived by sister Ann Molinari (Frank-deceased), Napa, CA, and brother Johnny, South Jordan, Utah.

Survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Suzanne and Mike Jones and their children: Brian Jones, Tracy and Joshua Crosman, Easton, Brayden, and Colton Crosman; Tony and Dawn Bernardo and their children: Christy and Isaac Collard, Jonathan, Jennie, and Ellie Collard, Brett and Adrianne Bernardo, Anthony, Austin, and Andrew Bernardo, Candice and Nathan Kukahiko, Chad and Andrew (deceased) Landon, Olivia, Leora, Elizabeth, and Lucas Kukahiko, Alyson and Casey Broadhead, Cameron, Davis, and Chelsea Broadhead; Patty and Steven Latimer and their children: Lacey and Darren Neilson, Mckinly, Madison, and Lincoln Neilson, Lindsey Latimer, and Tyson Latimer; Mike and Stacy Bernardo and their children: Jordan Bernardo, and Zach Bernardo; Many nieces and nephews with special mention to RoseMarie and Mickey Ostler, and Joe and Pat Sicoli. We’d like to thank Drs. Bennett and Chandramouli for their kindness and consideration these past few years.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, UT. The funeral service will be Monday, Dec.

3 at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, with viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery.
