Obituary for Jimmy David Smith J.D. Smith passed away at home surrounded by his wife and two daughters on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at age 84. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Smith; two daughters, Regina Smith Cheatwood and Donna (Britt) Rice; five grandchildren, Angelia (Gary) Reid, Alicia (Bret) Chappell, David (Dayna) Rice, Andrea (Steven) Perry, and Daniel (Allison) Rice; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Steadham; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Curgis and Verdie Smith of Cullman.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He served as a deacon at the local churches he attended.

He was currently a member of Smokerise Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the St. Vincent’s Hospice team for their loving care. Visitation will be Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at The New Gardendale Funeral Home.
