Obituary for Mrs. Joan Carroll Faughnan Joan Carroll Faughnan, 84, of Neptune City, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and worked on Wall Street and with the Brooklyn Dodgers before moving to New Jersey in 1967. She was the owner of the Lincoln House Bed and Breakfast in Avon-by-the-Sea before moving to Neptune City in 1969.

Joan graduated from Monmouth County Vocational Nursing School in 1976 before taking a position at Fitkin Hospital, now Jersey Shore University Medical Center, as a licensed practical nurse in the operating room. She spent several years working with wonderful orthopedic surgeons in the operating room before retiring in 1995 to spend more time with her mother and family. She has been a faithful member of St. Elizabeth’s church in Avon-by-the-Sea since 1967.

Joan loved her family and friends and especially enjoyed spending time with family at good meals and on vacations. Her proudest achievements were being a good grandmother and even better great-grandmother. She was the fire under her family’s ambitions and will be dearly missed.

One of her fondest family times was watching Jeopardy and learning the meaning of surface tension. She was pre-deceased by her husband Edward Faughnan, father and mother, Frederick and Helen Carroll Finnerty, brother Charles V. Finnerty, sister Catherine Donnelly-Houck, daughter Eileen “Mickey” McGurk, niece Patricia Petruzzi and nephew Kevin Finnerty.
